Case studies
We would like to share our experience with you by means of our case studies. They contain information on the successful deployment of our PE100 pressure fittings in projects throughout the world.

- Case study CO2 greengas for greenhouses
-
CO2 is an important fuel for crops. The Dutch greenhouse industry produces on large scale CO2 to improve the growth of plants.
CO2 is usually taken from the waste gases from the heating installation which runs on natural gas. Also in the summertime this heating installation is running to produce the necessary CO2.
In the petrochemical industry in Rotterdam large amounts of CO2 are emitted as a by-product of the production of hydrogen.
OCAP, a cooperation of gas company Linde & construction company VolkerWessels, started to transport this pure CO2 from Rotterdam to the greenhouse industry.
For transportation and storage OCAP makes use of an existing steel pipeline which is running from Rotterdam to Amsterdam.
For the connection to the greenhouses a wide distribution network in PE100 has been installed. The diameter range of the pipe system is d63-d630 mm with a working pressure of ± 8 bar.
The result is that the Dutch greenhouse industry annually saves 95 mio m3 natural gas and reduces the exhaust of 170.000 mt CO2 into the atmosphere!
- Case study geothermal energy
-
Geothermal mine water is used for heating and cooling in two districts of the city Heerlen, The Netherlands.
Since the closure of the coal mines in the 70's the mines have been filled up with groundwater. At about 2 km depth the temperature reaches up to 90°C. With this energy source it is expected that approximately 80% of energy demand can be met.
Due to the high potential of the geothermal mine water in all former mining areas in Europe, this pilot project was supported by the European Union.
The transmission between shaft and district is carried out in pre isolated PE pipes.
- Underground storage of gasses
-
UGS, Rudersdorf (Germany) is a company specialised in underground storage, a technology aimed at the safe, cost-effective and environmentally friendly storage of energy carriers, raw materials and chemical products in deep geological formations.
Flush Installation
The construction was partly prefabricated in the workshop of Beuker KLS BV (The Netherlands) and partly on site.
The total system was only 20x15 meters but consisted of 400 m PE pipe and 1750 various PE fittings! This complex system was designed in 3D with various bypasses for separate functioning of pumps.
The strongest advantage of PE is this project was the possibility to prefabricate and to make butt-welds which save space and offer flexibility in design.
